Nr. 804: Hungaria - Ungarn
“Hungaria Ungarn”. Depiction of Hungary with bordering regions, North at the top. Engraved map after Conrad Loew by the Hogenberg workshop, published by Lambert Andreas, Cologne 1597. 19,7 x 25 cm.
Szántai, Loew 1a. First state. From the first edition of the rare compendium of European road-maps “Kronn und Aussbundt aller Wegweiser”, published by L. Andreas, Cologne 1597 (cf. Meurer, Atlantes Colonienses, p. 140-46). The plate was used in this (first) edition of 1597 for the first time. The typographical German text on the back of the map contains descriptions of Bratislava and Ofen-Pest and indicates the distances between Bratislava and all major surrounding towns as well as between Ofen-Pest and major places in the directions of Bratislawa and Belgrade. – Fine early impression with full plate tone. At sides good original margins, at top and at bottom cut close, partly to the inner borderline. Notwithstanding the few imperfections a very good copy of a map of great rarity!
