Nr. 783: Plan de la Ville de Bude en 1686
”Plan de la Ville et des Attaques de Bude. en 1686”. Plan of the siege of Ofen by the Imperial army in 1686. In the upper left corner a key to the details in the plan and comprehensive explanations to the situation of the town and to the siege, in the upper right corner a map of the surrounding of Budapest. Etching and engraving by Harmanus van Loon after a design by Des Roches, “A Paris, Chez l’Autheur, rue St. André des Arts, Porte de Bucy”, 1686 or later. (PM) 34,5 x 46,5 cm.
The address of the “author” is that of Sébastien de de Pontault de Beaulieu. But Beaulieu had died in 1674 already. Before he died he had entrusted the business to Jean-Baptiste Hamont, sieur Des Roches, husband of his niece Reine-Michele de Beaulieu. Reine de Beaulieu took over the business herself later when her husband died as well, but that was not before the early 1690s. So Des Roches must be also the publisher of our plan, which he most probably published as a separate sheet. Rare! - Fine impression of the whole plate with wide margins. Slight soiling to centrefold only.
