“Amerique Septentrionale Divisée en ses Principales Parties”; with a separate running title in Latin at top “America Septentrionalis in Suas Praecipuas Partes divisa, ad usum Serenissimi Burgundiae Ducis”. North and Central America with the West Indies. Double-page map in striking original colour after Alexis-Hubert Jaillot, engraved in copper by Pieter Mortier and issued by Reinier & Josua Ottens, Amsterdam at around 1729 or later. (PM) 48 x 58 cm.
Burden # 700, state 3. Mc Laughlin & Mayo (1995) no. 113, state 2. Originally issued in Jaillot’s Atlas Royal around 1694 and dedicated to the son of Louis XIV., Louis Duke of Burgundy “Le Grand Dauphin”. This atlas was not produced in Paris, but in cooperation with and by Pieter Mortier in Amsterdam. Sometime after Pieter Mortier’s death the plates were sold to the Ottens family. The brothers Reinier and Josua reissued the map with their own imprint added, some copies - as ours - brilliantly coloured in the early 18th century Dutch style! - A perfect copy in bright original colour with wide margins. AAA condition.
