Nr. 1014: Brüssel
„Brüssel“. General view of the city in profile forming a large panorama with key in French and German below the view. Printed from 2 engraved plates on 2 sheets joined after a design of Friedrich Bernhard Werner and published by Johann Friedrich Probst, Augsburg c. 1740/45. Sheetsize: 42 x 116, platemark 39 x 109,5 cm.
First and only state. The drawing for the print was executed on the spot by Friedrich Bernhard Werner of Breslau (1690 – 1776), who travelled to the Netherlands to make drawings several times between c. 1730 and 1740. The view therefore gives a realistic impression of the city as it looked around 1735. – Fine dark and even impression on strong laid paper with 2 large watermarks. Wide blank original margins. Only negligible staining. A copy of outstanding quality!
